Phantom Image Automatic Acquisition and Analysis
PIAAA provides a flexible, efficient tool for the automatic acquisition and analysis of phantom images during routine Quality Control (QC) procedures in diagnostic radiology.
Two kinds of problem are encountered in practice when performing routine assessment of image quality;
1. repeatability
The repeatability of subjective evaluations of phantom details (e.g. number of visible details of any kind); it is not possible to differentiate whether the observed variation in the number of visible details is due to an inter-observer variation or a change in the performance of the radiological system. The QC manager is thus forced to ignore variations of ±1 details, significantly reducing the sensitivity of the phantom in detecting malfunctions.
2. cost
Many phantoms are complex and rich in details, the radiologist must spend a minimum of 15 minutes to read the image and record the data. If this exercise is performed daily, 60-70 radiologist hours are spent every year.
PIAAA puts an end to these problems. The radiologist takes an image of the phantom and PIAAA automatically analyses and finds all the information contained in the phantom image. The radiologist has spared 15 minutes of their precious time and the QC manager can make evaluations without any bias introduced by subjective assessment of the image.
